Got Google? On-Ramp service for Google Apps offered at no cost!
Posted by Kevin Lalor in GoogleApps & Postini on October 24th, 2011
With the purchase of Google Apps in October and November, Bi101 will provide On-Ramp service at a $600 discount*.
Are you ready to go Google? Seems like everyone is going Google around us – the Business Times just reported that in Silicon Valley 97% of startups within the last two years are running on Google Apps. There are tons of cities booming with startups and other small and medium-sized businesses, and they all have one thing in common: they are benefiting from taking a 100% web approach. Google Apps allows you to focus on your business, not your IT.
This rapid adoption could be partly because Google Apps are allowing you to be productive anywhere, anytime. Flexibility is key as more companies need to do work on the go – while at the airport, in a coffee shop or at a hotel using a public wireless network. The great thing about Google Apps is that it protects your data by establishing an encrypted connection while you work. Without it, an unauthorized person could hack into your session and obtain access to your account.
Using an Internet standard known as HTTPS, Google will encrypt your data as it travels from your browser to their servers. This makes it much harder for an impostor to access your account. Google has supported encrypted connections from the day Google Apps launched over five years ago, and they made it the default setting for all users at the beginning of last year.

Live webinar: Google Message Continuity helps Gables Residential realize the benefits of 100% web
Posted by Kevin Lalor in GoogleApps & Postini on April 15th, 2011
Google is hosting a Webinar that gives a case study on how Google Message Continuity can help your business:
Gables Residential, an Atlanta-based Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT), turned to Google Message Continuity to supplement their Microsoft® Exchange 2007 email environment and minimize email downtime. Gables Residential owns, manages and develops property throughout Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, Houston, South Florida, D.C., and Southern California, contributing to a portfolio of over 38,000 apartment homes. With their managed properties distributed across the country and over multiple time zones, it was critically important that their employees always have access to their email. Gables Residential turned to Google Message Continuity, a cloud-based disaster recovery solution, to enhance the reliability of their email environment.
Google Message Continuity works by synchronizing all email stored on Microsoft® Exchange servers into Gmail, using a simple plug-in that ensures all messages are always present in both email inboxes. If Microsoft® Exchange is unavailable, users can simply login to Gmail with their usual credentials and take advantage of Gmail’s reliability–available 99.984% of the time in 2010–to send and receive messages. The simplicity of the set-up, the minimal maintenance and deployment costs, and the ability to keep their distributed workforce productive during email outages is what differentiated Google Message Continuity over other continuity alternatives.
What’s more, through using Google Message Continuity Gables Residential learned first-hand the benefits of a 100% web environment, and plans to switch from Microsoft® Exchange to Google Apps for Business later this year. With emails constantly being replicated in Gmail, switching to the rest of Google Apps can be a seamless move, both for IT admins and for users. Gables Residential plans on taking advantage of this smooth deployment path in May and looks forward to deploying Google Apps across its entire user base.
Join Google during a live webinar as James Hamrick, Director of IT, explains how Gables Residential was able to successfully use Google Message Continuity to improve the reliability of their Microsoft® Exchange environment while paving the way for a 100% web future with Google Apps for Business.
Register for this live webcast on April 20th, 11 a.m. Eastern Time, 2011. We hope to see you there!
Email Continuity Service Provided by Postini and Google Apps
Posted by Kevin Lalor in GoogleApps & Postini on December 10th, 2010

Email Continuity Flow Chart
This week Google unveiled a new service for email continuity called Google Message Continuity — a disaster recovery solution.
This brings Gmail’s reliability to companies currently using Microsoft Exchange. Google Message Continuity enables you to use Gmail as a backup mail server during planned and unplanned outages. Message Continuity delivers your organization’s messages to both your primary mail server and to Gmail, which helps your organization maintain access to up-to-date emails when Exchange is down.
At the end of an outage, all changes made by users via Gmail are synchronized with the primary mail server. This includes messages sent from Gmail to other users, new messages received by users during the downtime, messages marked as read or starred, and changes to folders and labels.

Productivity and Collaboration Gains with Using Google Apps – Forrester Report
Posted by Kevin Lalor in GoogleApps & Postini on December 8th, 2010
Recently, Forrester released a report that indicates that switching to Google Apps can have a return on investment of over 300%.
This report was commisioned by Google to measure the “Total Economic Impact” that a typical large organization could expect over three years from moving from an on-premise solution to the cloud (using Google’s cloud solutions). Their research shows that the value of improved productivity and collaboration can actually be larger than the substantial cost savings.
Google and Forrester do strongly suggest companies conduct their own impact analysis, Business Intelligence 101 can assist you in by conducting a free analysis of your IT infrastructure.
