New in Postini v6.14
This 6.14 Release Update includes new features and enhancements for the message security service and web security service:
Now Available: Outbound DNS Configuration for Microsoft Exchange 2003
Postini now offer private DNS services that allow Microsoft 2000/2003 customers to deploy Outbound services without using a smarthost. This new configuration helps reduce the outbound queuing delays experienced by some customers using a smarthost setup. To use the feature, administrators direct their outbound SMTP DNS lookups to the Postini private DNS service.
Private DNS services support for additional mail servers is in progress and information will be published when available.
Directory Sync Server Edition
This release introduces the Directory Sync Server Edition utility, which gives you the ability to easily synchronize the user data in your LDAP server with your message security service. The utility requires minimal setup, automates user management tasks, and ensures that new users receive protection immediately.
Directory Sync Server Edition performs a push one-way synchronization with the message security service, unlike the current Directory Sync Hosted Edition feature, which pulls data from your LDAP server.
How it works: The utility creates a mapping file, connects to your message security service, and adds, deletes or moves users in the service to match the organization structure in your directory server. You can perform test synchronizations, configure change limits and notifications, and schedule automatic synchronizations. On the day of the release, the release notes will include a link to a system requirements page, and a page for downloading the utility.
New Web Security & Compliance Features
Web Security and Compliance now offers an advanced version of the policy manager, which enables a more granular set of policy controls over users' settings and access. Administrators can define sets of rules and visually configure them in order of precedence. Shortly after the release, we will publish information in the Web Security Release Notes about how you can migrate your polices to the new and improved interface.
This release also introduces the new roaming protection feature, which provides web security to employees who access the Internet from outside of the office. Roaming protection encrypts and filters all inbound and outbound web traffic through the Web Security service and reduces the latency and bandwidth associated with flowing web traffic through the corporate VPN and Internet gateways. The roaming protection feature is available for an additional cost; please contact your Sales Account Manager after the release (April 15) for more information.
Also included are enhancements to the forensics and block page reports, and, for customers using the Secure Connector in standalone mode -- a new Acceptable Use Policy page which can be displayed to users and easily customized by administrators.
Google Message Discovery Toolbar
The Google Message Discovery toolbar provides your users with an easy way to access their Personal Archive from their Microsoft Outlook mail client. Users can search by keywords, date range, and senders/recipients; and recover their messages from their archive without logging in to the Message Center.
The toolbar works with Google Message Discovery and Postini Message Archiving, and Microsoft Outlook 2003/2007.
Catchall User Reports (Legacy Feature)
Reports will no longer include data for the individual user addresses associated with a catchall account (a legacy feature available to some customers). However, reports will continue to display the aggregate data and totals for a catchall account.
User Changes
This release does not contain any interface changes that affect end users.
